How to make Apple Pie Roses

Wednesday 1 June, 2016, Interflora

Let’s face it; the weather is miserable right now in Australia. With temperatures dropping, winds picking up and rainfall pelting down the second you decide to walk out the door – it’s a dark time in the land down under. Sad as the weather forecast may be, we are refusing to let it get us down. It’s time to make lemonade out of those sour lemons – or better yet, Apple Pie Roses. With weather like this there has never been a better time to stay in and bake apple pie, it’s the quintessential winter treat.

Although apple pie might generally seem like a time-consuming endeavour, these sweet little apple pie roses are easy and quick as can be! They’re simple to prepare and the overall effect is impressive. Have a birthday to attend? Looking to bring something along (besides birthday flowers, of course)? These Apple Pie Roses will leave everyone in awe of your baking prowess! Even if there’s nothing special coming up on your social calendar, give these baked treats a go – there’s no reason to deny yourself a slice of heaven throughout these dreary wintry days! Follow the steps below and you’ll be on your way to warming your bones and awakening your taste buds this winter!

How to Make Apple Pie Roses

Ingredients:

3 apples

2 sheets of puffed pastry, thawed

6 tablespoons of apricot preserve (or preserve of your choice)

4 tablespoons of water

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

Cinnamon Sugar

Step 1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius. Slice apples in half from top to bottom, de-core and thinly slice.

Step 2. Fill a medium-sized bowl with water and lemon juice. Place the sliced apples into the water and microwave for 5 minutes until slightly soft. Drain the apples. Mix the preserve with water and set aside.

Step 3. Roll the pastry out with a rolling pin and cut each sheet into 6 equal slices. Spread some of the preserve mixture across each of the slices of pastry.

Step 4. Place the apple slices along one half of the pastry with the peel side facing out. Fold the pastry in half to cover the apples. Roll the pastry into a coil and place in a muffin tin. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Step 5. Bake until golden, at least 20 minutes. Sprinkle with a little icing sugar, if desired. Note: Place a pan of water on the bottom rack of the oven to avoid burning.

Enjoy!
